This attractive, period building on the seafront at The Esplanade is Fleetwood Lower Lighthouse. We’ve caught this architectural gem in our watercolour painting.

Fleetwood Lower Lighthouse

Did you know that the northwest town of Fleetwood is unique in that it has three lighthouses?

You’d have to be sharp eyed to spot the near derelict remains of the Wyre Light – it’s out in the channel of the River Wyre. But you’d need very strong glasses if you missed this one and it’s onshore partner, the Upper Lighthouse.

Lined up, the three lighthouses were designed to guide ships safely through the dangers of the Wyre channel, into port. The two stone land based lighthouses still mark the way to port today.
